The Tallest Man On Earth a sorti l'un des plus profonds albums de l'année 2008. Pitchwork n'a pas tari d'éloges au sujet de Kristian Matsson en qualifiant celui-ci de « chanteur folk né, sincère, intelligent et apaisant ». Shallow Grave n'aurait pu être plus simple : juste la voix de Matsson accompagnée d'une guitare ou d'un banjo, enregistré dans sa maison à Dalarna en Suède. Bien que l'album soit sorti sur le label suédois Gravitation records sans large distribution, l'histoire de The Tallest Man On Earth s'est propagée très loin. En avril 2010, il sort The Wild Hunt. Acclamé par la critique, Matsson réalise une douzaine de concerts à guichet fermés de part et d'autre de l'Atlantique.
